April showers brings Wong May. Wong May 1st. This first day of May marks the May issue of The Believer, which contains an interview, by myself, of WM (I just asked one question, then backed away). You should buy the issue and read the first interview she’s given in my lifetime. That’s her face drawn by Charles Burns in the bottom right hand corner of the cover.
Octopus Books also figured it would be a good day to offer her book, Picasso’s Tears, for pre-order. Its official publication date is June 1, and it will ship shortly after that, but you can order it now. 325 pages. Clothbound hardcover. $24.
A bit about the book:
Written over the past 35 years, Picasso’s Tears is an epic account of Wong May’s incisive, empathic, and visionary engagement with our strange and violent world. Politically inflamed and intensely personal, this fourth book of poems by Wong May marks the long-awaited re-emergence of a major, miraculous voice.
