Recently, I’ve put down the pencil and I’ve started sketching more quickly with pens. Here are portraits of Patti Smith, Lucia Berlin, and Grete Stern.
I’ve recently drawn portraits of some of my favorite artists: Samuel Beckett, Etel Adnan, Joyce Mansour, and Octavio Paz. If you want me to draw your favorite artist for you, just ask me.
I’ve put down the color pencils and ink pens, for now, to work only with a pencil. Clarice Lispector, Jean-Luc Godard, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez are my three most recent portraits. I’d draw a portrait of one of your favorite artists too and send it to you if you’d want.
In addition to doing portraiture commissions for people to help support my novel-writing adventure over the next few months, I started drawing portraits of some of the artists and thinkers I admire.
8 x 11 prints of these 5 are now available on Buy Olympia’s website for $20 each, along with some of my previous portraits. If you’re a fan of these artists and thinkers too, please consider buying a print. It would go a long way to help support me during my travels.
Originals are 14 x17 and are also available–just send me a query over email.
I did a portraiture commission of mother and daughter, Lex and Avi, as a holiday gift for my new friend, and their husband and father, Simon.
Lately, in order to financially support my time writing a novel, I’ve been teaching myself to draw portraits. I would really like to keep drawing, and I hope you will consider commissioning me for a portrait of yourself or a loved one. I’m thinking portraits would make a pretty sweet holiday gift.
These portraits are 11 x 14, pencil, color pencil, and ink, on 90lb acid-free archival paper. I’ll seal them and ship them to you safely. Email me for more details.
I just finished drawing my very first commissioned portrait. Alexis Smith, the author of Glaciers (Tin House 2012), and Islands (forthcoming, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), asked me to draw her portrait for her new author photo. I would like to continue to draw portraits for writers and artists to support myself while I take off from working to write a novel all winter and spring in France. If you’d like to commission a portrait from me, and help support me as I write, please send me an email.
Tomorrow is your last day to purchase a raffle ticket for the 4 year anniversary epic benefit raffle for Flying Object. A winning raffle ticket gets you a catalog of small press books, or any other number of things. A winning raffle ticket in attendance could win a bunch of prizes too, one of which is a portrait of yourself by yours truly (me).
I recently finished a portraiture series of 15 of my favorite poets (10 of which are shown above) using pencil, color pencil, and ink pen. Quality prints of these portraits are now available to be purchased at Buy Olympia. The prints are 8.5 x 11, full-bleed, 11-color high definition ink process on 100% cotton fiber acid free paper, and they’re $20 each. Maybe buy one or two, have Buy Olympia ship them right to your door, and frame them right above the mantel on your fake fireplace.
If you want to see and buy a few in person, I’ll bring a selection with me on this poetry road trip. So, you bring your $20.
The originals of these portraits are for sale too. If you’re interested in purchasing an original, send me an email.
